TRANSIENT DATA STORES
It may be that data can only be cleansed by removing it from source, manipulating it externally then be reloading it back into the Legacy Data Store. Within Stage 1 Data Preparation this degree of development is to be resisted on any but the simplest data store. You will probably not have the time or knowledge to analyse the complete impact of whole scale unload— load activities. This is, after all, a data store earmarked for retirement. Ask yourself: if data cleansing has to take place externally can this be done safely? Can it wait until Stage 2 Data Preparation? Can the cleansed data be held until Stage 3 then loaded straight into the new system?
