USING CONCEPTUAL ENTITY MODELS TO DEFINE THE KEY BUSINESS DATA AREAS

On a data migration exercise I start from the premise that someone else has performed the data analysis and process analysis that informs the new target system. This can be taken as read. We are not interested in business process analysis because this is a data migration exercise. (This is not strictly true, as we shall see when we come to Data Transitional Rules later.) We are interested in data and comparing source and destination data structures; therefore, industry standard data modelling techniques are probably the best way forward.
