Simulating Random Variation with JMP

We'll use the same three discrete distributions as in the previous section to simulate random samples of 1,000 simulated observations. We'll open a new data table of 1,000 rows, and begin again with the integer distribution

  1. Select File → New → Data Table. Create a new data table and name it Simulated Data.

  2. Select Cols → New Column. Create this first new column as shown in Figure 5.8. Be sure to specify that the Initial Data Values are Random and enter 1000 as the number of rows. You also want Random Integer data between 0 and 20. Click OK and you should see that column 1 is now populated with values, all of which are between 0 and 20.
