Update Exchange

Once the BGP session is established, the peers exchange the contents of their BGP tables and use this information to build the tables needed to forward traffic through the connection. The following sections describe how to troubleshoot problems with incomplete reachability in formation being transmitted between peers and the information exchange process taking longer than it should.

Missing Prefixes

In most cases, problems with prefixes not received or not installed in the routing table can be traced to one of a few problems, such as synchronization, misconfigured or misapplied filtering, and next hop reachability. Each of these issues is covered in a section below.
