Inbound Route Summarization

One of the various problems facing the Internet today, as the world's largest internetwork, is the shear size of the Internet routing tables. It's not uncommon to find routers learning 180,000 or more reachable destinations, peering with multiple peers, and handling over 1 million possible paths for those destinations. This puts a considerable strain on the backbone routers of most Internet service providers, causing slower convergence times and various sorts of memory utilization problems. To make matters worse, the routing table in the Internet grows at a regular rate, as shown at http://bgp.potaroo.net/, for instance.
