In order to truly appreciate PowerPivot for SharePoint, you will eventually require an installation of the software. While there are a number of different PowerPivot for SharePoint configurations possible, we are going to concentrate on three. First, assuming you have access to an existing SharePoint 2010 server, we will detail the steps your SharePoint Administrator will have to execute in order for you to begin taking advantage of PowerPivot for SharePoint. Next, the process for establishing a development environment in a single, virtual machine will be detailed. The final configuration will cover the options for installing SharePoint 2010 Server (and PowerPivot for SharePoint) on a single workstation.
