Fundamentals of DAX
DAX uses a syntax structure with similarities to Excel. A vital difference is that DAX functions operate on table columns. It is not possible to reference a cell address, as the building blocks of PowerPivot are data tables and columns; within the PowerPivot data interface, there is no concept of a cell address.
The second fundamental of DAX is the language syntax. Column arguments for DAX functions can either be qualified with a table name in the form TableName[ColumnName] or unqualified as simply [ColumnName].
