Developing for Limited Devices

You can build a lot of applications, but keep in mind that you transfer data to mobile phones. This means that the same rules are different than when building a standard client server application. In this section, we walk through some of the restrictions that developers should know before they start to develop a mobile application.

WML is designed with the constraints of small narrowband devices, which include the following:

  • Small display and limited user-input facilities are included. A small mobile device such as a phone might have only a few lines (4–8) of textual display, with each line containing 8–12 characters.
