Objectives

In this chapter, we describe a common feature of application servers known as database connection caching (or pooling) and how EAServer specifically incorporates such capabilities. You'll also see how PowerBuilder components running in EAServer can take advantage of the server's support for a number of open database APIs, including Sybase OpenClient (CT-Library), Oracle Call Interface (OCI), Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), and Java Database Connectivity (JDBC). As this chapter evolves, you'll learn how EAServer and PowerBuilder work in tandem, enabling you to leverage this powerful application server feature using the same PowerScript database connectivity constructs familiar to you in client/server applications.
