A majority of the processing that occurs in an n-tier environment is developed in an object-oriented manner. Objects comprise methods that accomplish a given task. The promise of object-oriented technology was that reuse of code promotes higher productivity and lower costs. This promise was only partially realized as the majority of code that was being reused to achieve the improvements in productivity and lowered costs was focused on application infrastructure.
