Abstract

Acoustic nonlinearity in solids is described and various phenomena analyzed, taking into account the general formalism of indexing. The main phenomena are successively reduced to simplified (mainly monodimensional) forms in isotropic materials. The perturbation method is described and nonlinearity considered as a recursive effect slightly modifying the linear problem in progressive waves and stationary conditions. The model of self-modulation of the wave vector by a propagating wave is explained. Coupling between modes and frequency mixing is discussed. All considerations are specific to isotropic solids, ...
