5.1 Introduction

This chapter is a continuation of Chapter 4 and discusses power flow solution by the Newton–Raphson (NR), and the decoupled and fast-decoupled methods. Though the Gauss–Seidel method is computationally much easier, it has limitations when applied to large-sized power systems involving more number of unknowns. The methods presented in this chapter are useful for such systems. NR method is very accurate when compared to other methods and guarantees convergence in five to seven iterations irrespective of the size of power system.
