Chapter 9. Working with pgpool

In the previous chapter, we looked at PgBouncer and learned how to use it to optimize replicated setups as much as possible. In this chapter, we will take a look at a tool called pgpool. The idea behind pgpool is to bundle connection pooling with some additional functionality to improve replication, load balancing, and so on. It has steadily been developed over the years and can be downloaded freely from the www.pgpool.net website.

Installing pgpool
