Summary

In this chapter, you learned how to use PgBouncer for highly scalable web applications to reduce the overhead of permanent creation of connections. We saw how to configure the system and how we can utilize a virtual management database.

In the next chapter, you will be introduced to pgpool, a tool used to perform replication and connection pooling. Just like PgBouncer, pgpool is open source and can be used along with PostgreSQL to improve your cluster setups.
