5.1 Background

Activity 4 of this work looked at a specific project within one organization to see how lessons are gathered and to see how they can be disseminated. The organization studied was a small UK governmental body, which followed the standard process within the UK public sector, PRINCE2 (Office of Government Commerce [2002]), in which end-of-project reports were prepared, including lessons learned. The organization had recently set up a Centre of Excellence for managing change, which had collated lessons into a small but growing lessons learned database; however, the content of this database was felt to be somewhat anodyne and it was suggested that full value was not being obtained from the lessons learned ...
