Summary

The ip utility is part of the IPROUTE2 utility suite. This utility replaces the old ifconfig and route utilities you saw in Chapter 1. It is not only allows complete duplication of the functionality of those utilities but adds depth and atomically to the operation set.

This utility contains the mechanisms for manipulating the RPDB under Linux. The RPDB is the core of the Linux Policy Routing mechanism as you saw in Chapter 3 "Linux Policy Routing Structures."
