As mentioned in Chapter 1, "Policy-Enabled Networking Architecture," the goal of policy-based management is to simplify network operations and provisioning. This simplification is obtained by providing higher-level abstractions to the network administrators. These higher-level abstractions can then be translated by a management tool to an abstract representation of the policy/configuration required for each of the devices deployed in the network using the techniques described in Chapter 6, "Policy Validation and Translation Algorithms."
