Podcasting is a compound word created in 2004 that combined two words: iPod and broadcasting. The editors of the New Oxford American Dictionary recognized podcasting as the 2005 word of the year, designating the term as “a digital recording of a radio broadcast or similar program, made available on the Internet for downloading to a personal audio player.“ For those of us starting out, the best way to think of it is that a podcast in its basic format is simply an MP3 file or sound file.
