What Is Project Management?

Many people define project management differently based on their profession or how it is utilized in their company environment. Everyone agrees it involves knowledge and the ability to make things happen. For the purposes of this book, we will use the PMI definition, which states that project management is “the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet project requirements.” Specifically these are the tools and techniques postulated by PMI. The knowledge and skills generally come from the project manager, who has experience with managing projects. The culmination of these two areas forms the basis for effective project management.
