Chapter 3. Find Your Love and Passion
I don't know what my limits are, but I can tell you right now that I'm not afraid to find out!
Why did Michael Jordan return to basketball twice after retiring? Why did I come out of retirement at age 39 to play with the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury? Why did I do so again at the age of 50 and risk my legacy to play just one more game with my old team, the Detroit Shock? Why was Tiger Woods able to play one of the best rounds of golf of his life to date with two stress fractures and a torn knee ligament? Why did Courtney Paris promise to return her four-year scholarship to Oklahoma University if she didn't lead the women's basketball team to the 2009 NCAA championship?
In a word: love.
Finding your love is the first step to creating your Playbook for Success, because if you love what you do, you'll have the passion you need to succeed. Sure, the best players are getting paid a lot of money for playing now, but they started playing as kids just for the fun of it and because they loved what they were doing.
The same holds true in the business world. Without a fire in your belly to compete and do your work to the best of your ability, mediocrity will rule. You can't achieve your goals if you can't articulate your dream. You articulate that dream in your playbook.
