The goal of Chapters 17 through 21 from a director’s point of view is the mastering of the coordination-synthesis process in designing a production. Before you can approach the designer—either the designer in yourself or persons other than yourself—you must be keenly aware of the full range of possibilities and options open to you as a director. Many students study the areas of design through specialty courses without actually seeing how these areas overlap and how they may be similar in approach and arrive at similar concepts.
