Installing IIS on Windows XP Professional

Installing IIS is a simple matter of using the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel to add additional components to Windows XP Professional. Before you start the installation, however, check the following prerequisites:

  • You will need approximately 16MB of disk space if you install all of the IIS components. (If you're so tight on disk space that this matters, you've bigger things to worry about than installing IIS).

  • The TCP/IP network protocol must be installed on the computer. (It is installed by default on Windows XP.)

  • You must be running Windows XP Professional, not Home Edition. ...
