7.3. Envisioning Phase Metadocuments

The primary purpose of the envisioning phase is to obtain management approval to proceed with the development of a detailed plan to meet a specific business need. An optional purpose is to provide a foundation for subsequent planning and development work.

Vision Document

The deliverable of this phase is normally the vision document, sometimes called the vision/scope document. This document should basically establish the business case, including some background and a summary of the problem. It should then convey the vision of the solution in the form of a high-level set of requirements or objectives.
