6.3. The Microsoft Solution Framework

The Microsoft Solution Framework (MSF) was developed by Microsoft to organize its best practices into reusable models. In contrast to the process maturity models, the MSF is more focused on providing a process framework within which to design and create software applications, regardless of the specific techniques used within the framework. The Microsoft Solution Development Discipline (SDD) is that part of the MSF that focuses on application development.

In the MSF, various models span the entire planning, building, and managing cycle. These models include:
