1.3. Getting Acquainted

Since this book is intended to be a very intimate reading experience, I thought we might start by getting better acquainted. By offering a more personal biography than is normally expected in a technical book, I hope to establish a less academic tone from the start and to allow you greater opportunity to relate to the concepts and the anecdotes presented in the book.

I attended a small liberal arts college called Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin. During college, I worked as a restaurant manager and also worked nights as a janitor, in machine shops, and in gas stations.
