PANNING AND ZOOM EFFECTS are a great way to add motion to still images. Take the History Channel for example. Many of its episodes include footage from before the era of video, when much of modern history was recorded on film or can only be depicted in photos and illustrations. So how do you appeal to an audience used to seeing motion on TV, the computer, and handheld devices? Simple—make the pictures move! While zooming just allows you to emphasize a particular part of an image, panning and zooming entails moving across the face of an image to gradually reveal the story behind the picture.
