4. Binary Number System – Outputting Data
This chapter provides detailed information on binary number system. It provides an overview of bits, groups of bits, bytes. It also discusses eight-bit bytes and ports. The rules for binary addition are explained. It shows how microcontrollers read and write binary numbers. The Wink program is modified and expanded so that lit LEDs can be used to count in binary. Programming the 16F88 PIC microcontroller is described. The chapter also includes an overview of Binary Coded Decimal (BCD) and Hexadecimal Numbers (Hex).
