Related Legislation: OHSS

Each HR professional must have a solid understanding of—and familiarity with—key OHSS legislation in order to be able to effectively handle routine and non-routine health, safety, and security related situations.

Some of the laws that impact OHSS were crafted specifically around health and safety concerns, while others address these topics more tangentially (for instance, worker's compensation laws). Congress passed three laws created specifically to address health and safety issues on a national level:

  • Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act), 1970

  • Mine Safety and Health Act (MSH Act), 1977

  • Drug-Free Workplace Act, 1988
