Collective Bargaining: The Process

Collective bargaining is the process by which an employer and a labor union negotiate the terms of the collective bargaining agreement that will govern the employment relationship for those employees who are represented by the union.

This section will look at a number of specific dimensions of collective bargaining:

  • Good faith bargaining

  • Subjects of bargaining (mandatory, permissive, and illegal)

  • Approaches to collective bargaining
