Human Relations Concepts and Applications

Workplaces are composed of people, with all of the unique attributes and foibles that humans possess. Although this may seem obvious to us today, it wasn't until the establishment of the Industrial Relations Association of America (later renamed the American Management Association) in the 1920s that any real legitimacy was granted to the study of workplaces as social—as well as economic—organizations.

This concept touches upon all six functional areas and all HR disciplines. It directly relates to the topics of motivation, productivity, and a host of other issues, and will be addressed throughout this book.
