6.7. Summary

PostgreSQL can be run on almost all platforms where an ANSI C compiler is available. Installing PostgreSQL on Unix systems is in general an easy task. Running PostgreSQL on Microsoft Windows is slightly more complicated and is normally only done by using Cygwin, a software package providing many Unix tools for Windows. In addition to Cygwin, a daemon for using shared memory has to be installed.
