Introduction

The World Wide Web has undergone numerous changes since its creation, and it will certainly continue to do so. First there was just HTML, which let you make simple Web pages. Then along came scripting technologies such as ASP (Active Server Pages, a Microsoft construct) and CGI scripts (Common Gateway Interface, frequently written in Perl or C). Now there are many options in addition to those, including JSP (Java Server Pages), ColdFusion (recently purchased by Macromedia along with Allaire, ColdFusion's creator), and PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor).
