Web Server Security

Beyond the issue of secure PHP code there are three other primary Internet security considerations: the operating system (Windows, Unix, Mac, etc.), the Web server (Apache, Xitami, IIS, etc.), and how PHP is installed and configured. While these three factors may be beyond your control, it would behoove you as a Web developer to have at least a cursory understanding of the issues. I'll introduce the major players here, and the appendices, particularly Appendix A, Installation, and Appendix C, General Resources, will steer you toward more information for the OS and Web server you are using.
