Printing from the Editor

If you want to do your own printing, you can print directly from the Elements Editor. If you're a Mac owner, this is where you'll do your printing, although most of this section applies to both platforms equally. If you've got the Windows version of Elements, you can only print one photo at a time from the Editor, but it's convenient not having to run back to the Organizer every time you want to print a photo. (Printing multiple photos, like contact sheets, is handled by the Organizer, which is explained later.)

Before you actually print your photos, for best results, you need to check the settings in two windows—the Page Setup dialog box, and the Elements Print Preview Window.

Page Setup

The Page Setup window is the same for all the programs you have on your computer. It's where you set your page size and orientation and tell the computer which printer you're using, if you have more than one printer.

Whether you're using Windows or a Mac, you get to Page Setup by going to File → Page Setup. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+P (⌘-Shift-P) or click the Page Setup button on the Elements Print Preview window (explained later).

In Page Setup, start by choosing the correct printer. In Windows, click the Printer button to choose a printer. On a Mac, choose it from the pull-down menu. This setting is important for getting your margins exactly right. Next, in the main Page Setup window, choose the paper size you want and the orientation (portrait or landscape). When ...
