File Menu (Windows and Mac)

The File menu commands let you create, import, browse, save, and print files.

New

Choose this menu item if you want to start a new file in Elements. You can choose from:

  • A blank file. Press Ctrl+N (⌘-N).

  • Image from Clipboard. This automatically pastes anything you've copied into a new file.

  • Creation (Windows only). Choose this to go the Create wizard (see page 380).

  • Photomerge Panorama. See Chapter 10 for more about how to combine your photos into panoramas.

Open

Choose this menu item or press Ctrl+O (⌘-O) to open an existing file.

Open As (Windows Only)

This menu option (or Alt+Ctrl+O) lets you choose the format for a file as you open it.

Browse Folders

Use this menu command or press Shift+Ctrl+O (Shift-⌘-O) to bring up the Editor's File Browser, which is explained on page 39.

Open Recently Edited File

This menu item contains a pop-out list of the most recent files you've had open in Elements.

Duplicate

When you need to make a copy of your photo, choose this.

Close

To close the active image window, choose this or press Ctrl+W (⌘-W).

Close All

To close all your open image windows, choose this or press Shift+Ctrl+W (Option-⌘-W).

Save

To save your work, choose this menu item or press Ctrl+S (⌘-S).

Save As

To save your image under another file name or in a different format, choose this item or press Shift+Ctrl+S (Shift-⌘-S).

Save for Web

To save an image so that it's optimized for use on the Internet, choose this menu item or press Alt+Shift+Ctrl+S (Option-Shift-⌘-S) ...
