Drawing the eye to certain areas

If you've worked hard and trudged through the nuts and bolts of Photoshop, it's definitely time to start having some fun. You can make beautiful artistic imagery, as well as practical day-to-day images, by combining images into collages using various Photoshop techniques to change opacity and transparency, and creating crisp, clean silhouettes of people or objects. This is where you can really start putting together all the foundational Photoshop techniques you've learned and make stunning image combinations.

The techniques in this chapter make use of layers, layer masks, and selection methods, so if you aren't familiar with those aspects of Photoshop, you may want to review Chapters 9 and 10.

To begin with, I'd like to talk about some of the techniques you can use to make image objects look like they flow together: transparency, opacity, and silhouetting.
