After learning about Smart Filters and layer styles, adding a fill or adjustment layer may feel like something you already know how to do. After all, the Layers palette has become a lot less mysterious. It really is almost that simple, and with a few exceptions, you should find that working with these layers is much like working with any other layer.

A fill or adjustment layer can adjust the color, levels, brightness, and contrast of your object. These changes are added as a full layer over the object layer. A fill or adjustment layer can be masked or given a blend mode. Of course, you can move, edit, or delete it just as you would any other layer.

If you are working with other types of files in Photoshop, such as an image file, all of the options that are available as a fill or adjustment layer can be applied directly to the image by choosing Image
