When it comes to photographing sports, gear is important. It’s tough to photograph a surfer catching a wave with a point-and-shoot camera or an iPhone. A real challenge of shooting these types of sports is the distance between you and the action. While on the beach or sidelines, you need to use telephoto lenses to fill the frame with the action. In addition to a camera and lens, you need a monopod to hold the camera and lens steady, a loupe to check the images in bright light, and fast memory cards.
