THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE street photographs, both for the moment and the lines, which give the image its spatial depth. Horizontally framed and kept in its original 2:3 aspect ratio, the image is a long one, which allows the lines to play long and pull the reader in and through the photograph. The primary aesthetic decisions here were not related to shutter or aperture, or even the light, though the lack of bright light allows us to see further into the shadows, which we wouldn’t be able to do if the light had been brighter and I had been forced to expose to keep this man’s white shirt and hat from being overexposed.
