Night and darkness has both fascinated and intimidated humans for millennia; darkness fascinates and frightens because it deprives us of one of our most important senses: sight. To see, our eyes need light, and preferably lots of it. Night photography or low-light photography is all about generating light from the darkness; the light that gives the right mood and the right details. But it is all about seeing the possibilities in the dark. A landscape or a location is dramatically changed when the light vanishes. Some things disappear and the color changes, whereas other things become more clear and beautiful. Just think of how a forest changes when darkness falls and the moon rises over the horizon. This beautiful, lush landscape, usually so alive with color, changes to an almost inanimate, colorless ghost landscape. This is when a good photographer sees possibilities, not limitations. It just takes the right knowledge, and to a lesser extent, the right equipment to create a stunning low-light image.
