In order to find the best distance from the subject, there are two infallible methods.

First, in order to get rid of all those lousy intruders once and for all, I suggest that you use—ta-daa!—the subtraction method. There is not actually any math in it, of course; our operations are strictly photographic. Subtracting just means taking away, removing, eliminating—and isn’t that what we’re doing when we get rid of the intruders?
