Analysis of Amides

INTRODUCTION

The most of the pharmaceutical agents contain the amides. The amides containing drugs are the following: diazepam, thalidomide, barbiturates, nicotinamide, penicillins, sulfonamides, folic acid, etc.

Based on the importance of these drugs, the analytical methods are proposed. They are as follows:

  • IR method: The IR method is mainly based on the measurement and interpretation of the absorbed IR radiation by the sample molecule which is observed by the stretching of the N–H stretching which shows the absorption maxima of 5.90–6.10 μm.
