Analysis of Esters

INTRODUCTION

The most of the pharmaceutical agents contain the esters. The esters containing drugs are as follows: alkaloids, vitamins, antibiotics, etc.

Based on the importance of the compounds the following analytical methods are proposed:

  • IR method: This method is mainly based on the absorption of the IR radiation by the stretching vibrations of the C–O of the sample molecule. This shows the absorption maxima of 5.75 μm.
  • UV method: This method is mainly based on the determination of the UV radiation absorption by the sample which undergoes transition.
