11.1 Introduction

Well testing by activation of pressure transients in the wellbore is routinely conducted to collect data which can be analyzed for well and reservoir properties. During drilling operations, well testing is conducted with drillstem tests (DST) or with openhole formation tester tools. For producing wells, testing is typically performed with either flow (drawdown) or shut-in (buildup) tests depending on well conditions, and reservoir properties to be calculated from the test data.
