Chapter 10. Fluid Flow in Petroleum Reservoirs

10.1 Introduction

In prior chapters, various methods for the calculation of volumes of hydrocarbons in place in petroleum reservoirs and potential recoveries were presented. These methods do not provide the engineer with techniques for estimating the rates at which the hydrocarbon reserves could be produced. Determination of achievable production rates is a critical element in the economic evaluation of hydrocarbon resources.
