Chapter 15. Mice and Keyboards

The keyboard has been the main tool for data input from the beginning of personal computers. Although the keyboard remains almost unchanged from the early days, the few changes are notable.

The Microsoft Natural Keyboard (and others like it) attempts to prevent the problems people encounter with carpal tunnel syndrome and other types of repetitive-stress injury. In addition, some keyboards attempt to solve accessibility problems. Others use unique layouts, such as the Dvorak layout, used to enhance typing speed and reduce repetitive-stress injuries. (The Dvorak layout uses a key arrangement that reduced repetitive stress injuries and can increase typing speed.)
