Chapter 4

Resource Management in Pervasive Computing

Pervasive computing encompasses a broad range of capabilities including communications (e.g., cell phones), mobile computing (e.g., laptop computers), image transferring (e.g., displays), and sensors (e.g., RFID and cameras), where efficient resource management is important for making pervasive systems available anytime and anywhere in the world. More specifically, infrastructures and challenges, from resource allocation to task migration, must be carefully maintained in order to make pervasive systems more efficient.

In this chapter, we introduce ways to allocate resources efficiently and then present how to migrate tasks intelligently in pervasive environments.
