Suppose you're drawing a scene in which there are several buildings of differing sizes situated at various distances and angles from the viewer. You've drawn everything in proper linear perspective, but the scene seems too static. Things are lined up too neatly. Your eyelids are becoming heavy and you know something is wrong. So you disrupt your static scene and turn a building at an angle different from what you actually see. What are you really doing when you twist that building at a new angle? You're relocating its vanishing points.
