Chapter 5. Perl’s New Syntax

The Perl language contains many features you don’t find in C or C++. This chapter shows you those features, which include many new control and looping statements, some special variables, and other aspects of the language.

This chapter is divided into two sections. The first section shows you the most useful new features of Perl. The second section contains some of the more obscure and less-used features that you may find in some Perl code. Although you’ll probably never use statements like these, you should be aware of the syntax so that you can understand other Perl programs you might come across.
