This book is dedicated to the many developers, system administrators, and others who have spent countless hours addressing Linux performance analysis and tuning issues on a regular basis.

The book has been a work in progress for several months, and I am indebted to many people for helping to make it happen. It started with a visionary idea of writing a book on Linux performance in fall 2002 with Bill Hartner, Duc Vianney, Peter Wong, and I brainstorming various “what-if” scenarios regarding various Linux performance publications.
